Is it worth it to repair this 2001 Isuzu rodeo?

My friend's parents have a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo that has 170,000 miles on it. They have been the only owners of the SUV and have taken really good care of it. The engine just cracked so they bought a new SUV. They would practically give me the SUV if I wanted to repair it. Would it be worth it to put a new engine in it? Everything on the car is original. I'm not a car person so I don't know if that is a good investment. My current auto is a 96 Camaro with 124,000 miles and it runs fine but needs a few repairs. Not sure if it would be best to fix mine up or take the SUV because it is newer. Any suggestions?
