Any more information on kidney failure ?

My brother is nearly 14 and has recently been rushed to hospital because he had kidney failure due to his immune system attacking itself. I know he will be on dialysis three times a week for up to 4 hrs until he gets a kidney transplant, but then i don't know what happens next. I was also wondering if this will lower his life expectancy. And will he ever be able to lead a normal life again ? any information will be vital help.
