Is there anything more ridiculous than politicians "apologizing" for historical events?

Neatly said. Actually, it's not apologizing, it's pandering for votes. I was born in the north 75 years ago and have lived here in the south for the past 35. I love my southern friends and neighbors and would in no way expect an apology from them for the death of two of my ancestors that fought and died for the Union during the Civil War. I don't expect any of my African-American friends to thank me for their sacrifice either. This is all a part of our countries history, it's past. We have learned from it and have moved on and to apologize for that, is indeed ridiculous.
